My enjoyment in art stems from two aspects of art making. Firstly, in the joy of constructing concepts and, secondly, in the physical task of making the work. I like to have a balance between the two. I can find conceptual work mentally and emotionally draining to produce. The native flower series is off the back of feeling emotionally drained. I loved working on them, as the difficult detail required me to focus solely on the task.
I am trying to develop a subtlety with my lino prints, hinting at the shape of a form and letting the eye and the imagination do the rest. The test of a lino is employing restraint in order to hint rather than tell.
I can’t help but make my work a little conceptual. The four flowers are grown in my Mum’s garden. If I was to make work for the sake of emotional rest then flowers from Mum’s garden seemed appropriate
My work is currently on exhibition at Work Of Art Community Gallery
